AISTS has been collaborating with the World Union of Olympic Cities since 2008, when the first edition of the World Union of Olympic Cities Summit was held. Since then the AISTS became the academic and knowledge partner of the World Union of Olympic Cities.
The World Union of Olympic Cities facilitates dialogue between former and future Olympic Games host cities in order to ensure the continued positive impact of the Games and to share the outcome of this dialogue with cities around the world.
As a partner, AISTS was working actively together with the World Union of Olympic Cities before and during the Rio 2016 Olympic Games to collect positive stories of sustainability from a variety of hospitality houses and sports venues at the Games. Stories include initiatives from the Dutch NOC, NBA House and World Rugby, as well as others.
AISTS Head of Projects, Geert Hendriks, said the Games include many good examples on sustainability and legacy that must be shared with a wider audience in an easy-to-understand format to make sure it positively contributes to the public’s perception of the event and to encourage knowledge sharing between Olympic Cities.
A short booklet is being compiled with a selection of the collected cases and will be made publicly available soon on the AISTS website and also the World Union of Olympic Cities website.
