20th Anniversary of the
World Union of Olympic Cities
Athens, Greece
As the year 2022 will mark the 20th Anniversary of the World Union of Olympic Cities, we would like to invite you to join a unique gathering in the birthplace of both the Union and Olympism. In Athens, let’s enjoy a journey in modern and ancient Games in a resolutely forward-looking perspective.
The World Union of Olympic Cities was created by the Cities of Athens and Lausanne, respectively home of the first edition of the Games of the Modern era and home of international sport. The time has come for the World Union of Olympic Cities and its Members to talk not only about Olympic anniversary celebrations, but to experience their own celebration!
From the Panathenaic Stadium – which was used for the first time in 330BC, hosted the 1896 Modern Olympic Games and is the Annual Marathon’s finish line and to where you may want to experiment a unique morning run – to the futuristic brand-new Athens Olympic Museum, we invite you on a journey through time! A stopover at the Olympic Athletic Center of Athens will allow us to discover the most significant venues of the 2004 Athens Olympic Games in 2004, nearly all of which remain in use.
In addition, an optional trip to Ancient Olympia and the International Olympic Academy is available from May 24 pm to May 25 pm!
