The summer capital of Russia
Sochi was founded in 1838 and became the regional centre of the Black Sea province in 1896. Located in the south western part of Russia, it spreads along the 147 km strip of land between the Main Caucasus Mountain Range and the Black Sea coastline. The entire territory of Sochi is a part of the State Natural National Park and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, making it a city, a park and a natural reserve at the same time.
Sochi annually hosts several international and national competitions in athletics, tennis, football, volleyball, and sailing and proposes numerous of sporting activities such as mountain biking, caving, hiking, skiing, rock climbing, horse riding, canyoning, wind surfing, scuba diving, sailing.

Sochi is also a great place for the rehabilitation of athletes. All the necessary conditions are found here: stadiums, football fields, tennis courts, gyms, sports facilities,
well-developed infrastructure, powerful therapeutic and diagnostic facilities and the unique natural conditions of the resort, which facilitate a rapid recovery of vital functioning.
Sochi is not only a centre of culture and a perfect year-round vacation and sport resort, but one of the most rapidly developing cities in the Russian Federation. Businessmen meet here to conduct large-scale international meetings and forums. The city offers a total of 183 modern infrastructure facilities, all of them improving the quality of life in Sochi and leaving an important legacy for both the city of Sochi and the Krasnodar Region.
Thanks to hosting the 2014 Winter Games, the city of Sochi and the entire Southern Federal District of Russia benefit from modern roads and railways, brand new transportation hubs, modernized engineering infrastructure, modern accommodation and a renovated coastline. All of these factors contribute to increase of potential for events and investments in the Southern Federal District of Russia.
