The Summit focused on Olympic Legacy and the link between sustainable urban development and international sport. The theme of the Summit was how to ensure the Games result in community and environmentally sustainable legacies. This year in Rio, participants had the opportunity to discuss ‘urban legacies’: how the legacy of the Games can be used to contribute to a healthier and better socially integrated population. In addition, as Rio will be hosting the Rio+20 UN Conference next year, the 4th Lausanne Summit enabled UMVO members to consider the direct input their organisation can have in the Rio+20 conference. Discussions focused on how sport, through the Olympic Games, can promote sustainable development. Attending the Summit offered participants a unique opportunity to meet Mayors of former, current and upcoming host cities of the Olympic Games. In addition, the Summit was attended by a number of different International Olympic Committee personalities and international sports professionals. The UMVO General Assembly was held during the Summit. |
