The IOC announced that only three of the initial five applicant cities will continue as candidate cities for the 2020 bid to host the XXXII Summer Olympiad. The three cities to progress to the next stage are Istanbul, Tokyo, and Madrid while the cities of Doha and Baku did not advance.

The UMVO wishes all the best to the three candidate cities and looks forward to welcoming them at the next edition of the Lausanne Summit for Olympic Cities scheduled to take place in Lausanne between the 30th September and the 2nd of October
